Xavier sending 25 to sectionals after top finishes at WIAA Division 2 Winneconne Track & Field Regional

WINNECONNE – The Xavier girls won 10 titles and cruised to the team title at the WIAA Division 2 Track & Field Regional on Monday at Winneconne High School.
The Xavier girls had 17 sectional qualifiers, while the boys team had one regional champion and eight moving on after top-four finishes.
The top four finishers in each event qualify for Thursday’s D-2 sectional at Appleton North, with the top four in each event there automatically qualifying for the 2024 WIAA State Track & Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on May 31-June 1.
Lillie Fouts won both the girls 1,600 meters in 5:14.61 and the 3,200 in 11:26.71, and Xavier won three relays and five other events.
The 800 relay team of Grace Renz, Caroline Basehoar, Faith Hafner and Lauren Erickson won in 1:48.31, the 400 team of Hailey Hafner, Bernice Geurts, Bryce Hietpas and Yami Ornelas was first in 50.57, and the 1,600 team of Grace Hackl, Joy Krull, Renz and Erickson won in 4:07.33.
Other winners for the Xavier girls were Hailey Hafner in the 100 hurdles (15.38), Renz in the 100 (12.89), Erickson in the 200 (26.39) and Basehoar in the pole vault (10-0).
Also earning sectional spots for the Hawks were Jena Banks in the high jump (second, 4-11), the 3,200 relay team of Annalise Minorik, Krull, Hannah Linsmeyer and Fouts (second, 9:51.44), Ornelas in the 100 (third, 13.08) and 200 (fourth, 27.41), Hietpas in the 100 (fourth, 13.18), Faith Hafner int eh 200 (third, 27.24), and Lily McHugh in the 3,200 (fourth, 13:00.76).
Ben Olvey grabbed the Xavier boys lone victory as he won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.63 seconds.
Olvey, Carter Appl, Michael Kippenhan and Evan McCormick placed second in the 400 relay (45.10), and the 3,200 relay team of Jordan Rosenbaum, Will Sullivan, Evan Kist and Noah Donnermeyer also took second in 8:41.73 for the Hawks.
Also qualifying for sectionals for the Xavier boys were: Henry Willison in the discus (fourth, 134-2), McCormick in the 100 (second, 11.30), Cole Hietpas in the 300 hurdles (second, 42.63), Luke Wolske in the long jump (fourth, 18-5), and Elijah Gottschalk in the 3,200 (fourth, 10:48.35).
