Xavier qualifies two singles players, two doubles team for sectionals at WIAA Division 1 girls tennis subsectional

MANITOWOC – Xavier will be sending two singles players and two doubles teams to sectionals after competition at a WIAA Division 1 girls tennis subsectional on Tuesday at Lincoln High School.
Those reaching the semifinals in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and those reaching the finals in all other flights move on to a D-1 sectional at Fox Cities Racquet Club in Appleton on Thursday.
Xavier’s No. 1 singles player Dana Keesler and No. 2 player Sophia VanStraten each reached the sectional. Keesler won a quarterfinal match over Loria Dao of Oshkosh North 6-3, 6-0, while VanStraten won both of her matches in straight sets.
In doubles, Xavier’s No. 1 team of Kate Jannette and Mariel Pante won its quarterfinal match 6-1, 6-0, and the No. 2 team of Gabby Stammer and Grace Ogden lost just one game in a pair of matches to also reach the sectional meet.
The top four finishers at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and the top finisher at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles at the sectional will automatically qualify for the 2024 WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, which will be held Oct. 17-19. As many as 16 extra qualifiers in the No. 1 flights may also be added to the state field. The top team in the sectional moves on to the 2024 WIAA State Team Girls Tennis Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison on Oct. 25-26.
Laura Drexler at No. 3 singles, Addison Hervey at No. 4 singles, and Hailey Holub and Elsa Thiel at No. 3 doubles were all eliminated in the semifinals for the Hawks.
