Xavier outlasts Appleton North to win WIAA Division 1 girls volleyball regional title

APPLETON – The Xavier girls volleyball team won its third-straight regional title, and first in Division 1, as it outlasted Appleton North 3-1 in a WIAA D-1 regional final Saturday night at the Torchy Clark Gymnasium at Xavier High School.
The No. 4 seed Xavier (26-15) won 27-29, 25-17, 25-18, 27-25, in a tight match over the fifth-seeded Lightning to move on to a Division 1 sectional semifinal against No. 1 seed Kimberly (32-10) on Thursday at Bay Port High School.
Appleton North finishes its season with a 17-21 record, ending a streak of five-straight trips to the state tournament.
“Our girls played with so much intensity tonight,” Xavier coach Luke Herriges said. “We are playing our best ball and I’m so proud of them”
Xavier setter Sydney Neilitz had 44 assists and 15 digs, Madison Daley slammed down 19 kills, Ali Tylinski added 14 kills and 19 digs, and Grace Hackl led the defense with 21 digs in the victory.
Jena Bunks chipped in 12 digs and three service aces, Rose Kendall had seven kills, Lexi Allen finished with six kills and six blocks, and Elle Downs had five kills and six blocks as well for the two-time defending Division 2 state champion Hawks.
