Xavier has six first-team picks, Fox Valley Lutheran three on 2024 All-Bay Conference Football Team

Xavier senior linebacker Carter Appl was named the Defensive Player of the Year and was one of six Hawks to earn first-team selections on the 2024 All-Bay Conference Football Team, as voted on by the seven conference coaches following the regular season.

Cole Hietpas at both receiver and outside linebacker, offensive lineman Eddie Heuring, flex player Matthew Potter and defensive back Jonah Gentry joined Appl as first-team picks for Xavier, which finished 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the Bay Conference.

Fox Valley Lutheran, which also finished 6-5 and 3-4 in conference play, had three first-team selections in wide receivers David Schumacher and Nick Martin, and kicker Reagan Doriot.

Appl led Xavier with 115 total tackles, including 23 for loss and seven quarterback sacks. He also had two forced fumbles and returned an interception for a touchdown.

Hietpas rushed for 676 yards and 11 touchdowns, and caught a team-high 15 passes for 380 yards and two scores, while also racking up 58 tackles on defense.

Potter topped the Hawks in rushing with 1,402 yards and 19 touchdowns, and threw for 673 yards and six scores.

Gentry finished with 35 tackles and three interceptions for the Xavier defense.

Schumacher, who was named Wide Receiver of the Year for the conference, led Fox Valley Lutheran with 62 catches for 843 yards and 11 touchdowns, while also rushing for 268 yards and five TDs, and Martin had 50 catches for a team-high 859 yards and seven scores.

Doriot was 27-for-30 on extra point kicks and also made three of four field goal attempts for the Foxes.

Winneconne quarterback Brody Schaffer was named Offensive Player of the Year as he led the Wolves to an undefeated Bay Conference title. Schaffer enters this week’s Division 6 state semifinal with 1,633 yards rushing and 31 touchdowns, and 1,542 passing yards and 15 TD passes. He was also named Defensive Back of the Year as he has 45 total tackles and four interceptions.
