Xavier girls win title, boys finish fourth at Appleton West Cross Country Invite

NEENAH – Lilie Fouts and Annalise Minorik finished first and second overall to lead the Xavier girls cross country team to the victory at the Appleton West Terror Cross Country Invitational on Friday at Winagamie Golf Course.

Fouts ran in the 5,000-kilometer course in 19:04.2, 34 seconds ahead of Minorik, to help the Hawks to the team win with 44 points, which was 20 better than Kimberly.

Appleton North finished fourth with 112, Appleton West was sixth with 154 and Appleton East took ninth with 261 points.

Xavier also had top-20 finishes from Joy Krull, who was 12th in 20:54.8 and Elle Krull, who was 14th in 21:03.1.

Ava Helmbrecht of Appleton North was third in 19:57.3 and Lauren Podlasek took 16th in 21:11.3 to help the Lightning to the fourth-place finish.

Appleton West’s top runners were Lucie Fouts (19th, 21:17.8) and Roseanna Dane (24th, 21:33.5).

Rosemarie Butler was Appleton East’s best runner, taking 26th in 21:42.6.

Ashwaubenon won the boys team title with 81 points, with Kimberly second with 90. Xavier finished fourth with 105, Appleton North was seventh with 181, Appleton East took 12th with 322 and Appleton West was 13th with 325 points.

Logan Salzmann of Kimberly won the boys 5K in 16:01.2, 14 seconds in front of Shawano’s Ethan Onesti. Xavier’s Noah Donnermeyer was third in 16:31.8.

Appleton North’s Caleb Hardy (fifth, 17:10.4) and Riley Szymik (ninth, 17:29.4), and Appleton West’s Tyce Scheetz (sixth, 17:18.2) also had top-10 finishes.

Appleton East’s top runner was Liam Krainik, who finished 57th in 19:21.3.

Upcoming races for the Appleton teams include Appleton East at the Ashwaubenon Invitational at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Thursday, Appleton North and Appleton West at the Neenah Invite on Friday, and Xavier at the Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs Invitational on Sept. 5.
