Xavier girls volleyball dominates Notre Dame to win WIAA Division 2 regional final

APPLETON – The Xavier girls volleyball team is off to sectionals again after an impressive three-game sweep of Green Bay Notre Dame in a WIAA Division 2 regional final Saturday night at Xavier High School.

The Hawks, the defending WIAA Division 2 state champion, rolled 25-13, 25-13, 25-15, taking another step closer to a return trip to the state tournament.

No. 1 seed Xavier (41-3) will play will take on a familiar foe in the D-2 sectional semifinal as it will host crosstown rival No. 2 seed Fox Valley Lutheran (36-6) on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Xavier won two regular-season matchups with FVL this season.

The winner of Xavier and FVL will play the winner of No. 1 Kettle Moraine Lutheran and No. 3 Ripon in a sectional final Saturday, Oct. 28, at Wrightstown High School for the right to play in the 2023 WIAA State Girls Volleyball Tournament in Green Bay.

Setter Mariah Potter was on point, finishing with 27 assists and 10 digs for the Hawks, who had four players with five kills or more. Mattea Kiepert and Annika Kowalski each had seven, Madison Daley had six and Olivia Neumann had five to lead the Xavier offense.

Belle Shea had a team-best 21 digs, Daley had five blocks and Kowalski added seven digs in the win for the Hawks.
