Xavier girls tennis team moves on to sectionals after play at WIAA Division 2 subsectional at Fox Cities Raquet Club

APPLETON – The entire Xavier team will move on to sectionals after advancing at the WIAA Division 2 girls tennis subsectional on Monday at Fox Cities Raquet Club.
Those reaching the semifinals at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and those reaching the finals at all other flights earn berths in the WIAA Division 2 sectional meet at the Sports Core in Kohler on Wednesday.
Xavier’s Kate Jannette earned a bye at No. 1 singles; Dana Keesler had a bye and won a semifinal over Samantha Hoerth of New London 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles; Sophia Bauman also had a bye and then won a semifinal match at No. 3 singles over Ava Geffers of Oshkosh Lourdes 6-0, 6-0; and Sophia VanStraten moved on at No. 4 singles with a bye and a 6-0, 6-0, sweep of Lucy Foss of Lourdes.
In doubles, Xavier’s No. 1 team of Gabby Stammer and Grace Ogden advanced with a bye. At No. 2, Nana Berko and Mariel Pante had a bye and won a semifinal match over Madison Wallace and Sophia Shaw of New London 6-1, 6-0. At No. 3 doubles, Elsa Thiel and Addison Herney won 6-0, 6-1, over Anika Wellens and Jasmine Saiyed of Lourdes in the semifinals.
