OSHKOSH – The Xavier girls soccer team’s run through the postseason came to an end Thursday night at Oshkosh North High School.
After playing to a scoreless tie through regulation and overtime, Oshkosh Lourdes/Valley Christian won a shootout 3-2 in a WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal.
Oshkosh Lourdes/Valley Christian (11-2-2) moves on to a sectional final against Kiel (23-1-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic High School in Neenah. The winner advances to next week’s WIAA State Girls Soccer Tournament in Milwaukee.
Xavier finishes its season with a 10-5-6 record.
“Always hard to see the run end,” Xavier coach John Meyer said. “It was a wonderful season with a great group of ladies who will have an impact on whatever they want to do going forward. The soccer gods had other plans for us. Good luck to Oshkosh Lourdes. We, as a team, will finish what we started next year.”
Both teams scored on each of its first two attempts in the shootout, before both missed on the third attempt. Lourdes/Valley Christian goalie Charley Mullen made a save on Xavier’s fourth attempt and Delaney Reudinger knocked home the game winner for the Knights.
