APPLETON – The Xavier girls soccer team is moving on to a sectionals after posting a 4-2 win over Wrightstown in a WIAA Division 4 regional final Saturday at Xavier High School.
The No. 3 seeded Hawks (10-5-5) will play a D-4 sectional semifinal at No. 2 seed Oshkosh Lourdes/Valley Christian on Thursday, with the winner moving in to a sectional final on Saturday, June 8, at St. Mary Catholic with a state tournament berth on the line.
Kate Jannette scored 15:02 into the game and Sydney Neilitz added a goal five minutes later to put the Hawks up 2-0.
Just 49 seconds after Wrightstown cut Xavier’s lead in half, Kylee Standish scored on a penalty kick to put the Hawks up 3-1 going into halftime.
Standish scored again midway through the second half for some insurance and Xavier was able to hold on from there.
Sydni Wanty and Gabby Wasco assisted on the first two goals for Xavier.
