Xavier girls repeat as Division 2 champions at 2023 WIAA State Cross Country Championships

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Xavier girls cross country team had three top-30 finishes and earned a repeat Division 2 state title at the 2023 WIAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Ridges Golf Course.

Lillie Fouts finished fourth in 18:27.8 and Annalise Minorik was 12th in 19:16.4 to lead the way for the Hawks, who finished with 75 points. Bloomer was a distant second with 116.

Nora Gremban of Northland Pines on won the Division 2 girls 5-kilometer race in 17:46.7.

Hannah Linsmeyer finished 28th (19:57.4), Joy Krull was 33rd (20:00.8), Lauren Erickson took 41st (20:08.9), Raena Lambie was 58th (20:35.7), and Elle Krull was 76th (20:54.0) as well for Xavier.

The Xavier boys had two runners take part in the Division 2 race. Noah Donnermeyer finished 42nd in 17:08.4 and Luke Krull was 71st in 17:31.8 to finish off their respective senior seasons.

Noah Kuhn of Madison Edgewood won the D-2 boys race in 15:50.5, 10 seconds ahead of Amherst’s Max Voss. Lakeside Lutheran was the team champion.

Appleton North also had four runners take part in Division 1 races at the state meet.

In the boys race, senior Caleb Hardy finished 78th in 16:58.9 and fellow senior Riley Szymik took 101st in 17:07.9 for the Lightning.

Appleton West senior Tyce Scheetz placed 103rd in 17:08.6 in the Division 1 boys race as well.

Stevens Point rolled to the team title, its second in a row, with four runners finishing in the top 11.

Onalaska’s Manny Putz won the D-1 boys individual title in 15:05.8.

Appleton North sophomores Ava Helmbrecht took 27th in 19:21.9 and Sophia Scherwinski was 55th in 19:49.8 in the D-1 girls 5k. Muskego’s Ella Anschutz won the race in 18:00.3.

Slinger won the Division 1 girls team title, Lancaster won the D-3 girls state crown, and Kohler repeated as the Division 3 boys state champion.
