Xavier girls golf captures Bay Conference Tournament, overall season championship

GREENLEAF – Aliisa Helminen shot a 74 to earn medalist honors by eight shots and lift Xavier to the team title at the Bay Conference Girls Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Wander Springs Golf Course.

Xavier finished with a team score at the 18-hole event with a 347, 14 shots ahead of second-place Shawano, to capture the Bay Conference championship.

Sophia Eggert of Shawano finished second overall with an 82 and wrapped up conference Player of the Year honors, with Helminen finishing second and Xavier teammates May Shimek third and Elizabeth Schubbe fifth. Morgan Lewis of Seymour took fourth to round out the first-team all-Bay Conference honorees.

Schubbe finished third with an 85 and Shimek tied for fifth with an 89 for the Hawks at the conference tournament.

Xavier’s Caroline Vanden Heuvel tied for 15th with a 99 to earn honorable mention all-Bay Conference. Molly Martine also had a 105 for Xavier on Tuesday.

Xavier will play at a WIAA Division 2 regional meet on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Mid-Vallee Golf Course in De Pere.
