Xavier girls basketball drops season-opener to Laconia

APPLETON – Laconia drilled 11 3-pointers and went on to defeat Xavier 64-41 in the Hawks’ girls basketball season-opener Thursday night at Xavier High School.
After playing a tight first half, in which Laconia led 26-24 at the intermission, the Spartans outscored Xavier 38-17 in the second half to improve to 2-0 this season.
Tierney Madigan had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Payton Morgan nailed five 3-pointers and scored 17 for Laconia.
Brynn Krull, Joy Krull and Faith Hafner each had seven points to top Xavier.
Xavier will take on Waukesha Catholic Memorial at the Brookfield Central Thanksgiving Shootout on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 10 a.m.
