Xavier football routs Shawano

SHAWANO – Xavier exploded for five second-quarter touchdowns and went on to a 41-0 shutout of Shawano in a Bay Conference football game Friday night at Shawano High School.

Matthew Potter threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Jonah Gentry in the second quarter as Xavier took a 7-0 lead into halftime.

Xavier (4-3, 2-3 Bay Conference) dominated the third quarter as Eli Mares and Potter had a pair of rushing touchdowns, and Cole Hietpas added another.

Mares finished with 109 yards rushing and Hietpas had 81 as Xavier racked up 253 yards on the ground. Potter ended up with 47, surpassing the 1,000-yard mark for the season.

Xavier will travel to Two Rivers for a Bay Conference-North Eastern Conference crossover game Thursday before hosting Waupaca on Oct. 18 to wrap up the regular season. Xavier will need to win both games to automatically qualify for the WIAA playoffs.
