Xavier escapes with narrow win, Appleton North, Appleton East and Fox Valley Lutheran eliminated in WIAA boys soccer regional finals

The 2023 WIAA state boys soccer playoffs continued Saturday with regional finals across four divisions.

Xavier is the final Appleton high school team remaining in the postseason after it edged Wrightstown 1-0 in a Division 4 regional final on Saturday at Xavier High School.

Xavier (20-3) moves on to play Sturgeon Bay (13-5-4) in a D-4 sectional semifinal at home on Thursday. A game time has not been announced. Kiel (15-2-4) will play at Neenah St. Mary Catholic (18-1) in the other sectional semifinal, with the winners play Saturday, Oct. 28, at St. Mary Catholic for the sectional title and a berth in the 2023 WIAA State Boys Soccer Tournament in Milwaukee.

Appleton North saw its season come to an end with a 1-0 loss at Green Bay Preble on Saturday. North finishes its season with a 7-5-2 record.

Preble (15-2-3) moves on to a D-1 sectional semifinal at No. 1 seed De Pere (16-3-3) on Thursday.

Appleton East also dropped a D-1 regional final, losing to No. 1 seed Brookfield East 5-0 on the road Saturday. East finishes the year 12-7-2.

Brookfield East (17-0-1) will host a sectional semifinal against crosstown rival and No. 12 seed Brookfield (3-8-4) Central on Thursday.

In Division 3, Fox Valley Lutheran also had its season end with a narrow 3-2 loss to Kewaskum on Saturday afternoon at FVL. The Foxes finish the year with a 13-7 record.

The No. 6 seed Kewaskum (12-8-1) will play a sectional semifinal at East Central Conference rival and No. 2 seed Plymouth (12-3-2) on Thursday.
