Xavier boys soccer nails down home win over New London

APPLETON – Xavier raced out to a three-goal lead early in the second half and held on for a 5-2 victory over New London in a Bay Conference boys soccer match Thursday at Xavier High School.
Ben Kaufman and Noah Arndt scored in the first half to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Kaufman netted his second goal 2:46 into the second half to up Xavier’s lead to 3-0 before New London tried to mount a comeback.
The Bulldogs scored less than one minute later, but Xavier (10-4-1, 4-1-1 Bay Conference) was able to put the game away as Ethan Long and Brock Polzin responded with goals to push the advantage to 5-1. A late goal for New London (8-4-1, 1-4 Bay Conference) provided inconsequential.
Noah Schulist finished with two assists, and Arndt also had an assist for the Hawks.
Xavier’s next match is Tuesday at Seymour.
