West De Pere slips past Xavier in battle of state-ranked girls basketball teams

DE PERE – West De Pere surged back from a six-point halftime deficit to defeat Xavier 46-44 in a battle of state-ranked Bay Conference girls basketball teams on Friday night at West De Pere High School.
Xavier, ranked No. 9 in this week’s Wissports.net Division 3 state coaches poll, pulled out to a 23-17 lead at halftime before West De Pere, the No. 6 team in the Division 2 poll, came back to escape with the two-point win.
Faith Walders led the Phantoms (8-1, 3-0 Bay Conference) with 14 points.
Xavier (7-3, 1-1 Bay Conference) was led by Joy Krull, who tied for game-high honors with 14 points.
Xavier is back in action Friday at New London, which is 2-0 in the Bay Conference and 9-1 overall.
