West De Pere pulls out close win over Xavier baseball

DE PERE – West De Pere sent the Xavier baseball team to its fifth-straight loss to start the season with a 3-1 Bay Conference win Tuesday at Westwood Elementary School.

The Phantoms (2-2, 2-1 Bay Conference) scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning and held Xavier scoreless until it tallied one on an RBI single by Evan Wittmann.

Gavin Wiese took the loss for the Hawks (0-5, 0-4 Bay), allowing three runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks in a complete-game effort.

Xavier will host Fox Valley Lutheran for a nonconference game Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Don Hawkins Field.
