Wauwatosa East holds off Appleton North girls basketball

WALES – The Appleton North girls basketball team came up short in a 59-56 loss to Wauwatosa East at the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday.

The game was tied 21-21 at halftime before the Red Raiders outscored North 38-35 in the second half to pull out the win.

Avery Werfal scored 18 points, Kate Vanden Berg added 11 and Tay Maas chipped in 10 for the Lightning, who fall to 1-2.

Wauwatosa East made 19 of 23 free throws, including 8 of 9 by leading scorer Mikala Litza (22 points). North was just 6-for-10 at the line.

Appleton North opens its Fox Valley Association schedule at Neenah on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
