SEYMOUR – After a wild nine-inning 18-7 win from Seymour over Xavier on Monday night, the two teams returned to action Tuesday at Seymour High School and this time it was a pitchers’ duel.
Seymour plated single runs in the third, fourth and six innings to post a 3-1 win over the Hawks in a Bay Conference matchup.
Brandon Bates threw five innings to earn the win and Carson Staffeldt shut out Xavier over the final two innings to pick up the save for Seymour as it ruined a solid start from Tyler Brightman.
Brightman allowed just five hits and no walks in a six-inning complete game, striking out three for the Hawks, who are now 2-4 overall and drop to 0-3 in the Bay Conference.
Reid Hietpas had two hits and Matthew Potter drove him in with the only run of the game for Xavier in the second inning.
Xavier will host Appleton West for a nonconference game Friday at Don Hawkins Field at the Appleton Post 38 Legion at 5 p.m.
