Second-half surge pushes Lodi past Xavier in WIAA Division 4 Level 3 football playoff

LODI – Lodi scored a pair of third-quarter rushing touchdowns to push ahead and it went on to defeat Xavier 28-13 in a WIAA Division 4 Level 3 football matchup Friday night at Lodi High School.
Xavier tied the game at 7-7 on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Reid Hietpas and that score held until halftime.
Lodi used rushing touchdowns on 9 yards from Gavin Sargeant and 55 yards by quarterback Mason Lane to take a two-score lead in the third quarter.
Reid Hietpas connected with Cole Hietpas for a 17-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to cut the Hawks’ deficit to 21-13, before Lodi added an insurance score late on a 29-yard run by Kylar Clemens.
Lang finished with 130 yards rushing and 69 passing for the undefeated Blue Devils (12-0).
Reid Hieptas had 89 yards rushing and finished 8-for-16 for 110 yards passing in the loss for Xavier, which ends its season with a 10-2 record.
Lodi moves on to a Division 4 Level 4 state semifinal next Friday against Baldwin-Woodville (10-2) at Arcadia High School. The winner earns a berth in the D-4 state finals at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison on Nov. 16.
