APPLETON – The Appleton East girls basketball team’s huge second-half explosion led to an 82-48 win over Appleton West in a Fox Valley Association game Friday at East High School.
The Patriots led 29-23 at halftime before pouring on 53 points in the second half to win going away.
“The second half execution was high level and all players shared the basketball,” Appleton East coach Brian Paschen said. “We used the unselfishness to get out in transition and extend the lead quickly.”
Lilly Meulemans had 18 points, Jenna Ott 17, and Lindsey Gerad, Ella Sweeney and Torie Neubauer all scored 11 for the Patriots, who are now 12-9 overall and square their FVA record at 8-8.
Jazelle Gowdy was a bright spot for Appleton West (2-20, 0-16 FVA), scoring 26 points.
Appleton East will be back in action Tuesday with a nonconference home game against Bay Port. The Patriots finish up their regular season with FVA games at home against Appleton North on Feb. 16 and at Kimberly on Feb. 20.
West will be at home against Oshkosh North on Monday and travel to Hortonville for its final regular-season game on Thursday.
The pairings for the WIAA playoffs, which will start Feb. 20, will be announced on Sunday.
