Rushing attack lifts Xavier football past Luxemburg-Casco

LUXEMBURG – Matthew Potter ran for 159 yards and three touchdowns to lift the Xavier football team to a 31-20 win over Luxemburg-Casco in a nonconference matchup Friday at Luxemburg-Casco High School.
Xavier (2-0) cruised out to a 24-6 lead by halftime as Cole Hietpas had an 8-yard touchdown run, Potter scored on runs of 4 and 29 yards, and Ethan Bires kicked a 28-yard field goal.
The Spartans (0-2) mounted some offense in the third quarter, scoring twice, but Potter’s third TD of the game kept the Hawks in control.
Jonah Gentry added another 83 yards on the ground as Xavier finished with 319 yards rushing on 54 carries.
Xaiver will travel across town to play Fox Valley Lutheran (2-0) for the Apple Bowl and the teams’ Bay Conference opener on Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.
