NEENAH – Gus Rieckman tossed a five-inning one-hit shutout to lead the Appleton Post 38 Legion baseball team to a resounding 12-0 win over Neenah on Monday.
Rieckman pitched to just one batter over the minimum in the five innings as he did not walk a batter and Appleton (6-7) played flawless defense behind him. He finished with seven strikeouts.
Appleton scored twice in the third inning to break open the scoreless tie, then poured it on with six more runs in the fourth and four in the fifth, ending the game via the 10-run rule.
The top four batters in Post 38’s lineup – Nick Bergin, Alex Ramus, Brandon Schopf and Ryan Tesch – each had two hits, with Ramus driving in three on two doubles and Schopf finishing with two RBI.
Reed Flick also added two hits and an RBI for Appleton.
Post 38 will host Fond du Lac at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Don Hawkins Field.
