Red-hot Neenah outshoots Appleton East in battle of FVA girls basketball leaders

APPLETON – A hot-shooting Neenah squad proved too much for Appleton East as the Rockets won the battle of state-ranked girls basketball teams with a 93-70 victory on Friday night at East High School.

Neenah came in ranked No. 2 in the latest Wissports.net Division 1 state coaches poll, while Appleton East was ranked 10th.

Three Neenah players combined for 16 3-pointers and 76 of the Rockets’ 93 points. Allie Ziebell nailed seven 3-pointers and finished with 29 points, Ellie Buss had six 3s and 26 points, and Rowan Klesmit drilled three long-range shots and added 21 points for Neenah.

The Rockets (8-1, 5-0 Fox Valley Association) pulled out to a 48-20 lead by halftime, and despite Appleton East putting up 50 points in the second half, it could not catch up.

Lilly Meulemans and Torie Neubauer each had 22 points in the loss for the Patriots (7-2, 3-2 FVA).

Both teams return to the court next Friday, Dec. 22, with FVA games. Neenah will be at home against Oshkosh North, while Appleton East travels to Hortonville.
