OSHKOSH – Appleton East’s seventh-inning rally fell just short as the Patriots dropped a 2-1 decision to Oshkosh West in a Fox Valley Association softball game Tuesday at West High School.
Oshkosh West (11-6, 9-2 FVA) led 2-0 after scoring single tallies in the first and third innings, and it remained that way until Appleton East put up a fight in the seventh.
Maddie Heisler led off with a single, moved to second on a groundout and to third on a passed ball before scoring on a groundout by Opal Sparkman to close the gap.
Elizabeth Jacobs followed with a two-out single before Oshkosh West reliever Avery Tritt coaxed a groundout out end it.
Maddie Heisler and Josie Heisler both had two hits for Appleton East (3-7 overall and FVA).
Aubrie Erickson went the distance on the mound for the Patriots, allowing six hits and seven walks, but only two runs.
