Oostburg outlasts Xavier to claim Division 3 title at WIAA State Girls Basketball Tournament

GREEN BAY – For the second year in a row, the Xavier girls basketball team is bringing home a silver ball from the state tournament.
Oostburg jumped out to a nine-point lead by halftime and held off a run from Xavier midway through the second half to top the Hawks 49-36 in the Division 3 championship game at the 2025 WIAA State Girls Basketball Tournament on Saturday at the Resch Center.
Oostburg (28-2), making its 11th state tournament appearance and first since 2012, claims its fourth state title.
Xavier finishes the season 19-11 and takes home its third runner-up trophy in four state tournament trips over the last 11 seasons.
Xavier led 5-4 early after a 3-pointer from Brynn Krull and a fastbreak layup from Joy Krull.
Oostburg responded with a 7-0 run and never trailed again.
The Dutchmen finished the first half on another 7-0 run with Ady Ketterhagen accounting for all of the points, including a jumper with 3 seconds to go, putting Oostburg up 26-15 at the break.
Xavier fell behind by as much as 11 after a Macy Bruggink basket gave Oostburg a 34-23 lead with 9:45 left.
The Hawks started to make a run. A 3-pointer from Brynn Krull capped a 7-0 spurt for Xavier, cutting the deficit to 34-30 just 1½ minutes later.
After the teams exchanged two points, Oostburg scored 13 in a row to put the game away. The final 10 came at the free throw line as the Dutchmen finished 19-for-22.
Ady Ketterhagen finished with 27 points, which included 13 of 14 at the free throw line, to pace Oostburg.
Brynn Krull had 12 points and Annika Heimann 11 for the Hawks, who finished just 13-for-49 from the field and committed 14 turnovers.
