New London outlasts Fox Valley Lutheran football in overtime

NEW LONDON – The Fox Valley Lutheran football team suffered another excruciating loss on Friday night, falling in overtime to New London 50-44 in a Bay Conference matchup at New London High School.

After suffering a pair of one-point losses to Waupaca and Freedom, FVL responded with a one-point win last week over Seymour, but Friday the Foxes were left in heartbreak again.

David Schumacher hauled in a 45-yard touchdown pass from Lucas Papendorf with 5:40 to go in the fourth quarter, tying the game at 44-44 with his fifth score of the game. The Foxes missed a two-point conversion attempt, however, and the score held for the rest of regulation.

New London scored on its opening possession in the extra period and held the Foxes out of the end zone to seal the win.

Schumacher caught 10 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for two more scores for FVL. Papendorf finished with 401 passing yards and three TD passes, while also running for another in the loss.

Fox Valley Lutheran will host undefeated Winneconne (7-0, 5-0 Bay Conference) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
