Neenah sweeps team titles, Appleton North takes third in boys and girls standings at 2023 Fox Valley Association Cross Country Championships

KAUKAUNA – Neenah swept the team titles and both the Appleton North boys and girls teams finished third at the 2023 Fox Valley Association Cross Country Championships on Thursday at Countryside Golf Course.

Sydney Fauske of Kaukauna won the girls 5-kilometer race in 18:38.1, nine seconds in front of runner-up Mazie Olkowski of Neenah.

Neenah finished with five top-10 finishes and 32 points to win the girls title, with Kaukauna second with 38 and Appleton North third with 96. Appleton East was seventh with 185 and Appleton West eighth with 198.

Ava Helmbrecht took eighth in 18:58.3, Lauren Podlasek was 16th in 19:39.6, and Sophia Scherwinski finished 20th in 19:56.2 as Appleton North had three top-20 finishes.

Appleton West’s Lucie Fouts finished 17th in 19:46.4 and Appleton East’s Rosemarie Butler was 19th in 19:55.6 to also grab spots in the top 20.

Neenah won the boys team title with 40 points as its top five runners placed sixth through 10th. Kimberly was a distant second with 73 and Appleton North took third with 107. Appleton West was seventh with 171 and Appleton East 10th with 249.

Logan Salzmann of Kimberly was the boys 5k champion, running in 16:03.5, 27 seconds ahead of Andrew Milhans of Kaukauna.

Appleton West’s Tyce Scheetz continued his strong season by taking third in 16:33.3, with Appleton North’s Caleb Hardy fourth (16:40.2) and Riley Szymik fifth (16:41.0).

Appleton East’s top finisher was Evan Rankin, who took 39th in 18:16.8.

Appleton East, Appleton North and Appleton West will all compete in a WIAA Division 1 sectional at Standing Rock Park in Stevens Point on Saturday, Oct. 21. The boys race starts at 11 a.m. and the girls race will begin at 11:45 a.m.
