Neenah sweeps individual, team titles at Fox Valley Association Cross Country Meet

KAUKAUNA – Neenah swept the team championships as Mazie Olkowski and Zach Verhagen won individual titles for the Rockets at the 2024 Fox Valley Association Cross Country Meet on Thursday at Countryside Golf Course.

Olkowski won the girls race in 18:29.8 in a photo finish with Appleton North’s Eva Busch, who was second just 2/10th of a second behind.

Neenah had five runners finish in the top nine and won the girls title with 26 points. Kimberly was second with 78, Appleton North third with 111, Appleton West fifth with 129 and Appleton East ninth with 225.

The Neenah boys swept the top six spots, which included Verhagen’s win in 16:10.1, earning the perfect score of 15 points. Kimberly also placed second in the boys standings with 55 points, Appleton North was third with 130, Appleton East seventh with 191 and Appleton West ninth with 225.

Lucie Fouts finished 10th in 19:27.6, Morgan Breed was 13th in 19:50.5, and Roseanna Dane took 19th in 20:09.4 to lead the Appleton West girls.

Sophie Busch placed 20th in 20:09.7 and Audry Dehlinger was 22nd in 20:18.2 for the Appleton North girls.

Appleton East’s top girls runner was Rosemarie Butler, who placed 27th in 20:24.3.

Louie Mandich of Appleton East had the top boys finish among the three Appleton schools, placing 17th in 17:17.8.

Lukas Nahm was 22nd in 17:28.2 and Spencer Gremban finished 24th in 17:40.5 for Appleton North.

Kegan Phalin led Appleton West, placing 23rd in 17:31.3.

Appleton East, Appleton North and Appleton West will compete at a WIAA Division 1 sectional on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Standing Rock Park in Stevens Point.
