Neenah holds off Appleton North football, hands Lightning first loss

NEENAH – Appleton North missed an extra point in the first half and a field goal late as it suffered its first loss of the season, falling 7-6 to Neenah in a Fox Valley Association football game Friday night at Neenah High School.
Quarterback Luke Kritzer scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter and with the missed extra point, the Lightning led 6-0 heading into halftime.
Neenah was able to pull ahead in the third on a 16-yard run by Grant Dean and Liam Wasco nailed the extra point to make it 7-6.
Neither team scored in the fourth quarter as both teams move to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the FVA.
The Lightning outgained Neenah 288-201 and had 17 first downs, but was unable to punch the ball in the end zone after their second-quarter score.
Kritzer finished with 84 yards rushing and 141 yards through the air to pace the North offense. Abraham Tomori helped out the passing game with five catches for 67 yards.
Appleton North will look to rebound with a home game against Kaukauna, which is also 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the FVA, on Friday, Sept. 29. Neenah will travel to play undefeated Kimberly (5-0, 4-0 FVA) on Sept. 29.
