Kimberly uses air attack to down Appleton East football

KIMBERLY – Appleton East hung with undefeated Kimberly early, but four unanswered touchdowns by the Papermakers was enough to power them to a 42-14 win in a Fox Valley Association football game Friday night at Kimberly High School.
Gavin Tyson ran in from 26 yards for Kimberly to put them on top 7-0, a score that held until early in the second quarter when Appleton East struck back.
Sophomore quarterback Alex Thompson connected with Cameron Scott for an 87-yard touchdown for the Patriots’ first score. A two-point attempt to try to take the lead failed and the Papermakers hung on to a 7-6 lead.
Kimberly responded with four-straight touchdowns over the remainder of the first half and into the third quarter to take command.
Marcus Doucette ran in from 29 yards out, and quarterback Carson Pendleton connected on touchdown passes to Abe Coronado for 13 yards, and two to Brennen Grams for 36 and 20 yards for the Papermakers (4-0, 3-0 VFA).
After Thompson hit Dieck for a 9-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter for East (2-3, 1-2 VFA), Pendleton tossed his fourth TD pass of the game to finish off the scoring.

Appleton East will have to win three of its final four games to earn an automatic WIAA playoff spot. The run of games starts Friday, Sept. 22, at home against Fond du Lac (1-4, 1-2 FVA). Game time is 7 p.m.
