Kimberly shuts out Appleton North football to claim share of FVA title

APPLETON – Kimberly forced four Appleton North turnovers and shut out the Lightning 14-0 to claim a share of the Fox Valley Association football title.

Kimberly (8-1, 6-1 FVA) has won or shared the last 10 completed seasons in the FVA or Valley Football Association North, not counting 2020. The Papermakers end up tied for first place with Neenah and Kaukauna. Click here to view the FVA football standings.

The Papermakers struck first when Carson Pendleton connected with Bryson Vieth for a 26-yard touchdown pass and the 7-0 lead held through halftime.

Neither offense scored in the second half as turnovers especially hurt the Lightning. Landen VanOfferen returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown to the only score of the second half, the final margin in the 14-0 win for Kimberly.

Appleton North held the Papermakers to 178 total yards, but could only muster 176 of its own as it had three interceptions and lost a fumble.

Jack Robinson had 71 yards rushing and Gavin Mattson caught three passes for 56 yards to lead the Lightning offense.

Appleton North finishes the regular season at 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the FVA.

Pairings and brackets for the WIAA playoffs will be released Saturday morning.
