APPLETON – The Appleton North boys basketball team’s once promising season ended in heartbreak with a 57-48 loss to Kimberly in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal Friday night at Appleton North High School.
The No. 8 seed Appleton North led 24-21 at halftime and were ahead midway through the second half, but couldn’t hold on as No. 9 Kimberly finished strong and ended up with a nine-point win.
Kimberly (17-8) will travel to No. 1 seed Marshfield (23-2) to play in a Division 1 regional final Saturday at 7 p.m.
Appleton North, which began the season 14-1, finishes at 16-9 after losing for the eighth time in its final 10 games.
Mikey Wildes and Thomas Meyers each scored 14 points for Kimberly.
