Hot start pushes Neenah past Appleton North in FVA girls basketball opener

APPLETON – The Appleton North girls basketball team could not overcome a 10-point halftime deficit and suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday night, falling to Neenah 75-59 in the Fox Valley Association opener for both teams at North High School.
The Rockets (4-1, 1-0 FVA) were sizzling from the start, taking a 47-37 lead by halftime, and outscored Appleton North (3-1, 0-1 FVA) by six in the second half to finish off the win.
Rowan Klesmit continued her hot start to the season, scoring a game-high 27 points for Neenah. Ellie Buss added 22 in the victory.
Tay Maass had 20 points and Avery Werfal scored 18 for the Lightning.
Appleton North will be at home against Hortonville on Friday as part of a girls-boys doubleheader. The girls game starts at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow at approximately 7:45 p.m.
