HORTONVILLE – Hortonville used pressure defense in the second half to bust the game open and went on to a 78-51 victory over Appleton East in a battle of state-ranked girls basketball teams Friday night at Hortonville High School.
Hortonville, ranked seventh in this week’s Wissports.net Division 1 state coaches poll, led 32-23 at halftime before putting up 46 points in the second half to pull away.
Ella Sweeney tried to keep 10th-ranked Appleton East (7-3, 3-3 FVA) in it, scoring 15 of her team-high 23 points in the second half, but Hortonville proved to be too much.
Rainey Welson hit seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 32 points for Hortonville (6-3, 5-1 FVA). Kardyn Peppler chipped in 12 points for the Polar Bears.
