Green Bay Hornets edge Appleton Post 38 in Legion baseball opener

APPLETON – The Appleton Post 38 American Legion baseball team opened its 2024 campaign with a 6-5 loss to the Green Bay Hornets on Thursday night at Don Hawkins Field.

Green Bay jumped on Appleton early, scoring four times in the top of the first.

Post 38 responded with a three-run bottom of the frame as Logan Hudson drove in two with a triple and scored on an error.

After Green Bay went up 5-3 in the third, Appleton rallied to tie the game on a two-run double by Brandon Schopf in the fourth.

The score remained deadlocked until Green Bay pushed across a run in the sixth thanks to a two-out error and this time Post 38 couldn’t recover.

Appleton loaded the bases in the sixth and had a leadoff single in the seventh, but could not push across the tying run, falling to 0-1.

Appleton will play a doubleheader at Marinette on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
