FVL’s Kufner, Xavier’s Rodriguez-Salgado earn state tournament berths with third-place finishes at WIAA Division 2 Seymour Sectional

SEYMOUR – Fox Valley Lutheran’s Austin Kufner and Xavier’s Cristian Rodriguez-Salgado are heading to state after each placing third at a WIAA Division 2 individual wrestling sectional at Seymour High School on Saturday.

The top three finishers in each of the 14 weight classes at the sectional qualify for the 2025 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which will be held Thursday, Feb. 27, through Saturday, March 1, at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Kufner (38-4) moves on to state for the second year in a row after placing third at 165 pounds for FVL. Kufner won a third-place match over Drew Chelberg of Shawano 14-8 to earn his spot.

Rodriguez-Salgado (42-10), a sophomore, is heading to the state tournament for the first time after he won a third-place match at 106 pounds over Jackson Williams of Freedom, 3-2.

Brackets for the state tournament will be announced on Sunday.
