Freedom upends Fox Valley Lutheran in WIAA Division 2 girls volleyball regional final

APPLETON – The Fox Valley Lutheran girls volleyball team saw its season come to a crashing halt as the Foxes lost to Freedom 3-1 in a WIAA Division 2 regional final Saturday night at Fox Valley Lutheran High School.
The No. 3 seed Irish (21-6) went on the road and defeated No. 2 seed Fox Valley Lutheran in come-from-behind fashion, 20-25, 25-17, 28-26, 25-17, to advance to a D-2 sectional semifinal at No. 1 seed Luxemburg-Casco (27-12) on Thursday.
The three teams had tied for the North Eastern Conference title this season, with Freedom defeating Luxemburg-Casco during the regular season, and FVL taking down Freedom earlier this year.
Sophia Wunderlich had 11 kills, Hannah Uhlenbrauck added 10 kills, Molly Bixby had 23 assists, and Ava Patchett had 21 assists and seven digs for FVL.
Riley Schmitz finished with a team-high 21 digs, Alaina Patchett chipped in eight kills and Brianna Stewart had seven kills in the loss for the Foxes, who finish the year with a 32-6 record.
