Fox Valley Lutheran, Xavier wrestling both sending two to WIAA Division 2 Sectional

DENMARK – Xavier and Fox Valley Lutheran each had a pair of sectional qualifiers after competition at a WIAA Division 2 wrestling regional at Denmark High School on Saturday.

Freedom won the team title with 249.5 points and Denmark was second with 212 to advance to a D-2 team sectional at Denmark on Tuesday.

Denmark will take on Coleman and Freedom will face Oconto Falls in the semifinals, with the winners meeting for a spot in the 2025 WIAA State Team Wrestling Tournament at the UW Fieldhouse in Madison on March 8.

The top four in each weight class at the regional move on to a Division 2 individual sectional at Seymour next Saturday, Feb. 22. The top three at each weight at the sectional qualify for the 2025 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which will be held Feb. 27-March 1 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Moving on for Xavier are Cristian Rodriguez-Salgado and John Faulker.

Rodriguez-Salgado (40-9) finished fifth in the 106-pound brackets, but got a chance at a fourth-place wrestleback and rolled to a 19-3 win over Malachi Kasuboski of Berlin to earn a spot at sectionals.

Faulker (24-10) ended up third at 157 after losing his final two matches. He lost in the championship match to Spencer Madsen of Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol by pin in 39 seconds, and then was pinned by Derek Klinkner of Two Rivers in 1:19 in the second-place wrestleback.

Austin Kufner and Grant Shea will be moving on to the individual sectional for Fox Valley Lutheran.

Kufner (35-3) lost 8-4 to Stevens Kielpikowski of Denmark in the 165-pound championship match, but came back strong to win a second-place wrestleback, shutting out Jack Nelson of Wrightstown 16-0.

Shea (30-9) finished fourth after losing the third-place match at 126 pounds and winning a fourth-place wrestleback over Owen Peeters of Little Chute 14-8.
