Fox Valley Lutheran wins three events, has 22 sectional qualifiers at WIAA Division 2 Track Regional at Little Chute

LITTLE CHUTE – Fox Valley Lutheran’s Emma Nilson won both girls throwing events and the 800-meter relay team also grabbed a victory at the WIAA Division 2 Track & Field Regional on Monday at Little Chute High School.

FVL ended up with 22 sectional qualifiers after top-four finishes at the regional.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for Thursday’s D-2 sectional at Freedom, with the top three in each event there qualifying for the 2024 WIAA State Track & Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on May 31-June 1.

Nilson won the girls discus with a throw of 132 feet, 6½ inches, and the shot put (39-5), and the girls 800 relay team of Sophia Wunderlich, Cailyn Groth, Annalise Patchett and Mya Burleton won in 1:48.06 for the Foxes.

The Fox Valley Lutheran girls had all four relay teams qualify for sectionals as the 3,200 team of Kristin Donart, Claire Fischer, Madeline Zuelsdorf and Carys Wendland placed fourth in 10:23.33, the 400 team of Wunderlich, Patchett, Amethyst Holmes and Burlington took second in 50.80 seconds, and the 1,600 team of Donart, Burleton, Patchett and Fischer finished third in 4:12.06.

Also moving on to sectionals for the Foxes were Donart in the 1,600 (second, 5:29.40), Fischer in the 400 (1:00.28), Patchett in the high jump (third, 4-10), Jaci Volp in the high jump (fourth, 4-6), Wunderlich in the 100 hurdles (fourth, 16.08) and triple jump (32-6½), Lake Curtis in the 300 hurdles (fourth, 51.89) and Lindsay Young in the long jump (14-10¼).

The FVL boys had three relay teams and three individuals in four events earning spots at the sectional as well.

Qualifying for the Foxes were: the 1,600 relay team of Luke Feenstra, Jacoby Dobberstein, Reed Curtis and Kaleb Williams (second, 3:32.32), the 400 team of Jack Egan, Blessings Kapande, Caleb DuFresne and Williams (second, 44.77) and the same four in the 800 relay (1:34.34), Curtis in the 1,600 (third, 4:34.94) and the 800 (fourth, 2:01.45), Jacoby Dobberstein in the 300 hurdles (fourth, 41.56), and Nathan Stafford in the pole vault (third, 12-6).
