APPLETON – Claire Pfrang stole home to score what proved to be the game-winning run as Fox Valley Lutheran slipped past Xavier 3-2 in a nonconference softball game Monday at Fox Valley Lutheran High School.
Alaina Krueger singled home a run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Foxes, playing their season-opener, a quick 1-0 lead.
Xavier rallied to take the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth as Ella Bauman cracked an RBI double and scored on a single by Addison Hervey.
Fox Valley Lutheran tied the game in the bottom of the inning thanks to a pair of Xavier errors and the tie score held until the sixth when the Foxes plated the game-winner.
Madison Babcock went the distance for FVL, striking out 15 while walking just two and allowing five hits to earn the win.
Hervey suffered the loss for Xavier, finishing with five strikeouts and seven walks. She also had three of the Hawks’ five hits.
Xavier opens its Bay Conference schedule at West De Pere on Tuesday. FVL is back in action Thursday at Freedom to begin its North Eastern Conference season.
