Fox Valley Lutheran football pulls away in second half to defeat Denmark

DENMARK – Two second-half touchdowns allowed the Fox Valley Lutheran football team to pull away and defeat Denmark 29-12 in a nonconference matchup Friday night at Denmark High School.

David Schumacher hauled in a 41-yard touchdown pass from Lucas Papendorf and Blessings Kapande had a 4-yard TD run in the first half as the Foxes took a 15-6 lead into halftime.

Denmark closed to within three on a 67-yard touchdown run by Steven Kielpikowski in the third quarter before FVL’s defense buckled down, shutting out the Vikings the rest of the way.

Gabe Heiges added a 4-yard touchdown run late in the third and Kapande ripped off a 70-yard scoring run in the fourth as Fox Valley Lutheran padded its lead.

Kapande finished with 128 yards on the ground for the Foxes, who were outgained 369-331, but forced four turnovers. Denmark (0-2) also committed eight penalties.

Fox Valley Lutheran (2-0) will host rival Xavier (2-0) for the Apple Bowl and the teams’ Bay Conference opener next Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.
