Fox Valley Lutheran football dominates late to ease past Shawano

APPLETON – The Fox Valley Lutheran football team scored four unanswered touchdowns in the second half to pull away and defeat Shawano 42-20 on Thursday night in a North Eastern Conference-Bay Conference crossover game at Fox Valley Lutheran High School.

The game counts as a conference game for both teams.

Fox Valley Lutheran raced out to a 16-0 lead after one quarter as Adam Loberger kicked a 29-yard field goal, Jack Egan ran in from the 1 and David Schumacher hauled in a 17-yard touchdown pass from Liam Heiges.

The Foxes held their shutout until the third quarter when Shawano scored two quick touchdowns on long passes from quarterback Jerzy Brocker, to cut FVL’s lead to 16-12.

Fox Valley Lutheran dominated after that. Egan had touchdown runs of 11 and 6 yards, Heiges hit Lucas Papendorf for a 67-yard TD, and Aiden Hirthe ran in from the 4 as the Foxes put up 26-straight points to pull away.

Heiges finished with 279 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Egan led the Foxes’ running game with 178 yards on 28 carries and three scores.

Fox Valley Lutheran (2-1, 1-0 North Eastern Conference) outgained Shawano (0-3, 0-1 Bay Conference) 471-240 in the victory.

Fox Valley Lutheran will play its final NEC-Bay crossover game at New London on Friday, Sept. 8, beginning at 7 p.m.
