The Fox Cities Stars girls hockey team split a pair of games to open its 2023-24 season.
Fox Cities lost a road game at Hawyard 6-2 on Friday before bouncing back with a 7-4 win at Tri-County Ice Arena on Saturday against the Rock County Fury.
Hayward scored four unanswered goals in the third period to bust open a tie game and take the victory in the season-opener for both teams on Friday.
Evie Mursau scored both goals for the Stars. Maleiyah Streck had two assists and Ellery Marsh also had an assist in the loss. Goaltender Teagan Wilkins had 22 saves for Fox Cities.
Streck, Mursau and Julia Lindemann each had two goals, and Peyton Smith added another for the Stars in the win over Rock County.
Makenna Ott saved 16 shots in goal for Fox Cities.
The Stars will have some time off before their next game, which will be at home against the Wisconsin Valley Union in the Eastern Shores Conference opener on Nov. 30.
