Fox Cities Stars boys hockey loses at Waupaca

WAUPACA – Zack Gusmer scored a pair of insurance goals in the final 5:08 to ice a 5-2 win over Waupaca over the Fox Cities Stars in a nonconference boys hockey game Tuesday at the Waupaca Expo Center.

Waupaca led 2-0 before Cale Adamovich scored off an assist from Will Cote with 6:31 to go in the second period.

The Comets (6-2) added a goal before the end of the period, only to see Fox Cities (2-4) score again as Ryan Ostermann cut it to 3-2.

Gusmer’s two goals, the second on an empty net with 35 seconds left, provided Waupaca with some cushion.

Both of the Stars’ goals were short-handed.

Elliot Reichenbacher made 44 saves in goal for the Stars, who were outshot 49-25 in the loss.

Fox Cities will host De Pere on Friday at the Tri-County Ice Arena in Neenah at 8 p.m.
