Fox Cities Stars boys hockey finishes 1-2 at Sheboygan Invitational

SHEBOYGAN – The Fox Cities Stars boys hockey team opened up its season at the Sheboygan Invitational, going 1-2 in games on Friday through Sunday at the Sheboygan Lakers Ice Arena.

The Stars lost to the Kenosha Thunder 6-1 on Friday before rebounding for a 4-1 win over Green Bay United on Saturday, and dropped a 5-2 decision to host Sheboygan on Sunday afternoon.

Spencer Winnekens scored the Stars’ lone goal in the loss to Kenosha.

Fox Cities dominated play against Green Bay, outshooting its opponent 53-25.

Cale Adamovich and Will Cote each had a goal and an assist, and Kale Berendsen and Landon Hanson added goals for the Stars.

Cote and Hanson scored in the second period of Sunday’s game to give the Stars a 2-1 lead, but Sheboygan responded with four goals in an eight-minute stretch of the third period to pull out the victory.

The Stars play Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha in its Badgerland Conference opener Tuesday at the Community First Champion Center in Appleton starting at 7 p.m.
