Fox Cities Stars boys hockey defeats Oshkosh, falls to Waupun

FOND DU LAC – The Fox Cities Stars boys hockey team split a pair of games at the Badgerland Conference Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Blue Line Family Ice Center.

The Stars needed overtime to defeat Oshkosh 5-4 on Friday night and suffered a tough 2-1 loss to Waupun on Saturday. Fox Cities is now 7-13 overall and finishes its Badgerland Conference season with a 2-7 record.

Will Cote nailed home the game-winner 6:38 into overtime to lift the Stars past Oshkosh.

Fox Cities led 4-2 after two periods as Sam Robb scored twice, and Ryan Ostermann and Spencer Winnekens had goals for the Stars.

Oshkosh stormed back to tie the game with two goals in the third period by Evan Neitzel, before the Stars were able to win it in overtime.

In Saturday’s game, Ostermann scored 3:10 into the third period to tie the game at 1-1, but Waupun won it at the 9:54 mark on a goal by Chase Beahm.

Elliot Reichenberger was in goal for both games for the Stars, finishing with 31 saves against Oshkosh and 23 against Waupun.

Fox Cities will wrap up its regular-season schedule with a pair of nonconference games. The Stars will host Ashwaubenon on Friday at the Tri-County Ice Arena in Neenah and will travel to Sheboygan on Saturday.
