Four Appleton athletes eliminated at WIAA girls wrestling Menasha Sectional

SHAWANO – Four Appleton high school wrestlers were eliminated from the postseason at a WIAA girls wrestling sectional at Shawano High School on Friday night.

The top two finishers in each of the 11 weight classes at the sectional qualify for the 2025 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison on Feb. 27-March 1.

Appleton North’s Mckinley Spalding dropped her first match by pin in 42 seconds to Caylin Johnson of Waupaca at 145 pounds.

Appleton West’s Anastasia Wilondja (16-14) lost in the quarterfinals at 138 pounds to Wausau West’s Emma Huggenik by pin in 3:07.

Huggenik then went on to defeat Fox Valley Lutheran’s Sophia Wunderlich (20-14) in the semifinals 18-8. Wunderlich won her first match by pin before having her season come to an end.

Elyse Ahrens of FVL also saw her season end with 14-17 record after being pinned by Hallie Krueger of New London in 1:35. Kruger went on to win the 152-pound title.
