Fond du Lac slugs past Appleton East softball

APPLETON – Fond du Lac scored seven runs in the final two innings and defeated Appleton East 12-6 in a Fox Valley Association softball game Monday at East High School.

The Patriots scored four times in the opening inning, keyed by a two-run single by Sarah Broeckert and an RBI single by Aubrey Erickson, but the lead only lasted until the third.

Fond du Lac pulled ahead with four runs in the third, another in the fourth and three more in the sixth. The Cardinals put the game away with a four-run seventh.

Broeckert finished 3-for-3 with three RBI and Erickson also had three hits for the Patriots, who fall to 1-2 overall and in the FVA.

Mackenna Shulits and Susan Vokes each had three hits for Fond du Lac (2-3, 1-3 FVA).

Appleton East will play at Hortonville on Tuesday.
