First-place Kimberly slugs past Appleton West baseball

APPLETON – Kimberly scored six times in the fifth inning and added four more in the seventh to defeat Appleton West 10-2 in a Fox Valley Association baseball game Monday at the Nienhaus Sports Complex.
Appleton West led 1-0 after scoring a run in the second inning and the score held until the fifth when Kimberly finally got to Terrors starting pitcher Michael Gwiazdon, plating six runs to pull away.
Gwiazdon struck out nine in five innings, but suffered the loss as the Terrors fall to 6-12 overall and 6-8 in the FVA.
Braylon Will had two of Appleton West’s four hits and drove in a run.
Brady Coons had two hits and three RBI to pace Kimberly (16-3, 12-2 FVA), which remains in sole possession of first place in the conference.
Appleton West will host Appleton East on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
